Red Hawks vs Eddy's Eagles [Nov. 27th, 2005|04:29 pm]
Although the Red Hawks lost, this was an awesome game, I really enjoyed seeing the team in action, and the Red Hawks are such better team players, it was great to see the team dynamic being so friendly.

Supporters were very eager to be close to the action

XBOX... isn't that some kind of Black Box? [May. 13th, 2005|12:43 pm]
[mood | gloomy]
[music |Killers - Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll]

BBC news reports on the new Xbox. Apparantly it will still have a hard drive, but they're unsure if there will be backwards compatibility. It will however, have interchangeable covers. Yay!

Am studying Systems Design. It's not as easy as I thought it would be to get every piece of information off the net. Finding information on "Data Capture Sub-systems" as they relate to Systems Design is possibly the silliest thing in the world.

Why oh why didn't I go to these lectures?

In other news, I finally worked out what was breaking my GNOME install. I had the gtk-qt-engine running, which attempts to make GNOME look like KDE. I assumed that it would use the KDE config to work out how to show the windows, but apparantly it thought that crashing was a better idea.

Anyway, time to toast a bagel and go BACK TO WORK(tm).

New OC tonight. :D

Roots [May. 6th, 2005|04:24 am]
I've realised that I've done something that should make me lose a lot of respect. I've allowed my music taste to be dictated to me. Friends, ex girlfriends, people in general have moved me more towards the musical left (rock and the like) when my place is more than not in the center or on the right (dance). Although I love acts like the Killers, Idlewild, Interpol, etc, they're not me. I've made a concious decision, I'm going to grab more mixes, listen to more of the 90s music I loved, listen to more digitally-imported.. It's really time for me to take a hold of my taste, and ignore those around me who tell me that I should listen to the new pop, which is the old rock.

I may have chosen a bad place to start though.

Billie Piper - Walk of Life.

I can't help but love her childish girly happy songs. They make me feel good.

Election today. I'd love to say that the Lib Dems made a strong message, and a good impression. I'd be ecstatic to report that I was pleased with the way the Tories made a dent in Labour's armour. But I can't. And I'm not even going to say I'm upset.

What I despair about is the election in Sedgefield, Tony Blair's seat. Reg Keys. A man stood for election to make a message about his son, who was one of the 66 British servicemen killed in the Iraq war, and had the guts to stand up against Blair in his home country.

Wow.

What does the BBC do? Cut him off mid-speech. I know it's not good political coverage, but that man had the most important message of the whole night. And Blair had the nerve to look humbled, on stage, next to a man who must have cut at his very conscience. If by any miracle, someone who knows Reg Keys reads this, I hope he knows that he made the biggest impression on me tonight.

Where once a great sleep pattern stood, now there is only ruin [May. 5th, 2005|03:21 am]
[mood | weird]
[music |Idlewild - I Never Wanted]

I slept from 11am till 3pm today.

Go figure.

At least I've done all my uni work. I found that Beagle is very unstable, very unusable, very unconfigurable. I love it. Although it uses up so many resources I can't justify running it really.. Oh well. It's given me some ideas for my final year project, which will be a distributed document manager. Imagine CVS for documents. For stupid people.

No.. I suppose stupid is too harsh. We shall just call them non-computer literate. I mean, they probably know how a car works. I don't.

I'm writing this on Drivel, it's absolutely lovely for doing ... this. Does what it says on the tin. Allows me to drivel. All I press is alt-f2 (took some getting used to.. still try to press win-r :S) type drivel, and this page gets updated with whatever I type. Any linux user should probably get it. It's in portage.

Oh and it's for GNOME. By the way.

I was talking about uni earlier.. yeah.. I've done my C++ coursework, I hate pointers. It's a shame that I really really want to hack either C or python, rather than java crap they give us, but alas, I have no time to learn it. I already have to learn ASP.NET for a possible job this summer. Joy.

I'm talking to my housemate across OTR. I feel secure. I can talk to him, and NOONE ELSE CAN HEAR! Hilarity ensues.

COLONEL! IS THIS LINE SECURE? See you at the prearranged rendezvous (bonjour?), 1300. We have a score to settle.

I feel this has been very nerdy so far.

I'm desperatly trying to find something to discount that, to prove that I'm not a nerd. But I'm tired from over-warcrafting, so I'll do that next time.

Night of Procrastination [May. 4th, 2005|04:35 am]
[mood | cranky]
[music |Aireline - Shady Place]

Todays task: Write 4000 word report on the HCI of the 'BunnyBrowser' I wrote for uni. Nice.

So of course I got up early at 9am, started work straight away, and finished at 6pm for tea and biscuits. Or was it that I got up at 12, rushed into uni to hand in previously completed maths, and then proceeded to ignore impending doom approaching until about 11. Yeah, twas the second one. In addition to this, I stumbled upon Beagle, a cool looking file system gimmick for GNOME, which excited me in ways I cannot legally describe. Unfortunatly to use it, I needed to be using a filesystem which enjoyed using extended attributes, for which jfs has very little documentation. Yet again jfs has caused my downfall, it's a really nice filesystem which hasn't failed me yet, but I do regret using it because it's so .. unsupported. Suffice to say that in addition to doing my report, I am currently migrating to reiser, so I can properly install beagle and use it. As it's pretty.

Other things myself and my housemates have done tonight include updating our version of Xbox Media Center and using the pretty new audioscrobbler plugin. Then we dressed up the xbox in a fez and tie. Go to his user page and see for yourself. Have also been drinking coffee. Charlie bought some fresh colombian for his coffee maker of much coffee making, so between that and coke have been able to keep my eyes open.

In my half-dead state the other night I actually submitted a dupe bug to bugs.gentoo.org.. I feel very bad. Although the bug hasn't been resolved, so.. who's fault is that anyway? The bug was with a gdesklet called hypertail, a dependency wouldn't compile due to access restrictions. What? I don't know. I guess I really don't need a scroll of my /var/log/messages anyway. This was all in the course of making my GNOME pretty and 2.10. Only thing is it's using far too much memory (700mb) so have invested in a new stick of 512mb. So now I have 1250 odd megabytes. I think that should be enough for even GNOME.
